Privacy Policy — Atlas AI

Last updated: August 31, 2026

Atlas AI ("the Extension", "we", "us") is a browser extension that lets you select text on any webpage and get answers from an AI model of your choice. This policy explains what data the Extension handles, how it is used, and your choices.

1. Summary

2. Information the Extension Handles

DataWhat happens to it
AI provider API key(s) (e.g. for Groq, OpenAI, Gemini, Anthropic, DeepSeek) Entered by you and saved only in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local). Never transmitted to us. Used only to authenticate your requests directly to the AI provider you selected.
Selected/highlighted text, and typed chat questions Sent directly from your browser to the AI provider's API (using your own key) to generate a response. Not stored or seen by us.
Screenshots of the visible tab (used for the OCR/"ask about image" feature) Captured locally with the browser's captureVisibleTab API. Text extraction (OCR) is performed locally in your browser using a bundled Tesseract.js engine. If you ask the AI about an image, that image is sent to the AI provider you selected, the same way as text. It is not sent to us.
Site preferences (e.g. sites/pages where you've disabled the extension), theme setting Stored locally in your browser only, to remember your preferences.
Dictionary lookups (word definitions) The specific word is sent to the public dictionaryapi.dev service to fetch a definition. No other data accompanies this request.
Files you choose to export/download from a chat Saved to your device via the browser's downloads feature, at your request.

3. Third-Party AI Providers

When you use the Extension, your questions (and, for supported providers, images) are sent directly from your browser to the AI provider you have configured — for example Groq, OpenAI, Google (Gemini), Anthropic, or DeepSeek — using the API key you supplied. That exchange is governed by the provider's own privacy policy and terms, since we do not operate or control their servers. We recommend reviewing the relevant provider's privacy policy before use.

4. Permissions We Request, and Why

5. Data We Do Not Collect

We do not use analytics or telemetry SDKs, do not track your browsing activity across sites, do not build advertising profiles, and do not sell or rent personal data to third parties. We do not receive a copy of your API keys, your questions, or the AI's responses.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

All data described above is stored locally in your browser. You can delete it at any time by clearing the Extension's data (via your browser's extension settings) or by uninstalling the Extension.

7. Children's Privacy

The Extension is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
